Living in Haughton, Louisiana: Neighborhoods, Schools & Everyday Life

Haughton lies east of Bossier City in Northwest Louisiana, on the east side of the Red River. The town and surrounding area offer established neighborhoods, newer construction, custom homes, and properties with acreage.

Whether you are relocating or looking for a different home locally, this guide introduces Haughton’s residential areas, schools, parks, and everyday connections.

Getting to Know Haughton & Its Neighborhoods

A Haughton home search often covers more than the town itself. Properties with Haughton mailing addresses may be inside town limits or in surrounding areas, including locations associated with Eastwood and nearby Princeton.

The broader area includes homes near the town center, subdivisions along the Highway 80 corridor, and rural properties farther out. I-20 and U.S. Highway 80 connect the area with Bossier City, Shreveport, and other destinations.

Subdivision Homes

Dogwood Park, Dogwood South, Country Place, Forest Hills, Tuscany Crossing, and Tuscany Villas are among the neighborhoods buyers may encounter in a Haughton-area search.

These are separate communities, with homes built at different times and offering different layouts, lot sizes, and features. Properties range from homes retaining original finishes to renovated residences and newer construction. Neighborhood amenities and association arrangements also vary.

Homes in and Around Town

The established town area includes homes near local streets, schools, businesses, and public facilities. Properties differ in age, construction, and renovation history, providing another setting to consider alongside the larger subdivisions.

Acreage & Rural Properties

Outside subdivision settings, buyers can explore homes with additional land and undeveloped parcels. These may be part of a search for more outdoor space, a workshop, equipment storage, or a place to build. The land’s suitability for those plans deserves as much attention as its size.

Parks, Recreation & Youth Sports

Joe Delaney Memorial Park, on North Hazel Street, includes a seasonal splash pad. The park honors the Haughton football player who played for the Kansas City Chiefs and died while attempting to rescue children from drowning.

Tall Timbers Park, along U.S. Highway 80 near Tall Timbers subdivision, includes a playground, restrooms, a walking track, and an athletic practice field used for activities such as football, baseball, and soccer.

In nearby Princeton, the Lawson “Bo” Brandon Sports Complex provides baseball facilities used for local leagues and tournaments. School athletics, recreational programs, and neighborhood facilities add other opportunities to participate.

Check directly with the town, parish, or program operator for current access, registration, schedules, and maintenance closures.

Neighborhood Schools

Haughton is served by Bossier Parish Schools, which uses residential attendance zones to assign students to neighborhood schools.

Schools in the broader area include Haughton Elementary, T.L. Rodes Elementary, Platt Elementary, Princeton Elementary, Haughton Middle, and Haughton High School. These schools do not form one identical pathway for every Haughton address. Some elementary schools serve particular grade groups, so confirm all the schools a child would attend for the specific property directly with the district.

Bossier Parish Schools also offers gifted and talented arts programs, with eligibility determined through district procedures. The school system provides current attendance maps, enrollment requirements, transportation information, and program details. Private schools have separate admissions processes.

Shopping, Dining & Things to Do

Local businesses, restaurants, and services are located within Haughton and along the Highway 80 corridor. Bossier City provides additional shopping, dining, and entertainment to the west.

Concerts, festivals, sporting events, museums, and cultural performances are available throughout Shreveport–Bossier. Lakes, parks, and recreation areas across Northwest Louisiana add options for outdoor outings.

Barksdale Air Force Base & Military Relocation

Haughton is one of the areas buyers may consider when relocating for Barksdale Air Force Base. The route to work depends on the home’s location, the entrance you expect to use, and your destination on base. Current gate access should be confirmed directly with Barksdale.

I have helped military buyers purchase homes in the area and understand that relocation often involves decisions made from a distance. Clear communication and advance planning help coordinate tours, inspections, and closing around your schedule.

Healthcare, Colleges & Employment

Haughton residents use healthcare, education, and employment services throughout Bossier City and Shreveport. Regional destinations include Bossier Parish Community College, the National Cyber Research Park, and colleges and employers on both sides of the Red River.

The healthcare community includes Willis Knighton Health, CHRISTUS Health, Ochsner LSU Health, and LSU Health Shreveport, with hospitals, clinics, practices, and educational facilities in different locations.

When comparing where to live, consider the places you visit regularly. Driving those routes at typical travel times can help you understand how a location fits your routine, particularly if your schedule includes work shifts, travel between facilities, or river crossings.

What to Check Before Buying

The home’s construction and setting help determine which questions need a closer look:

  • Established homes: Renovation history, roof condition, heating and cooling equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems.

  • New construction: Included features, upgrade costs, warranties, completion timelines, and inspection opportunities.

  • Subdivision properties: Association expenses, restrictions, maintenance responsibilities, and approvals for future changes.

  • Acreage: Boundaries, legal access, drainage, utilities, and whether the land can support your intended use.

Insurance, taxes, utilities, and upkeep belong in the ownership budget. Confirm whether the property uses public services or private systems, and review flood information and other address-specific details during the purchase process. A rural location does not necessarily mean a property is unrestricted.

You do not have to know every question before starting. Identifying what needs further investigation is part of how I help.

Buying or Selling in Haughton

For buyers, I help compare available homes and relevant sales, discuss each property’s strengths and potential concerns, and coordinate inspections and appropriate professional guidance. As you see homes, your priorities may become clearer or change. That is part of the process.

For sellers, I develop pricing, preparation, and marketing recommendations around the property and your goals. A renovated established home, newer subdivision property, and acreage residence may require different comparisons and ways of presenting what they offer.

Throughout the transaction, I stay involved in the details, communication, and contractual deadlines so you know where things stand and what comes next.
